CHOCOLATIER
branding / marketing / packaging
Bonbon Chocolatier is a local shop re-branding itself and services to attract new young customers of 18 to 35 years old. The goal is to create magazine ads, a variety of social media posts and a brand identity. Product packaging is also re-designed to the trendy, simplistic, new image.
The Concept: To step away from the traditional chocolate packaging, Bonbon is redefined and inspired by Swiss design, using geometrical shapes, grid patterns and bright colours.
Bonbon Chocolatier is known for their artisanal chocolate bonbons that comes in multiple colours and shapes. A colourful grid design is used to display each of their signature chocolates as an art piece. The letter “O” in Bonbon is replaced with Bonbon’s classic chocolate truffles, giving the advertising a playful, whimsical look.
Social media marketing and banner uses the same colourful, eye-catching grid design from the magazine advertising to create a memorable brand identity.
Chocolate is fully wrapped to protect from exposure to air, light, and moisture. I wanted to use colour and design to allow consumers to better understand the chocolate and experience the flavour without the chocolate shown. I used the cocoa flower to create a floral pattern to represent where the chocolate originates, as Bonbon Chocolatier is also known for their fair trade program and helping communities in Madagascar where their cocoa is sourced. The grid pattern is not only used to create a modern and geometrical design, but it is also used to show the size of the chocolate bar squares inside. Tones of brown is used for classic chocolate collections and brighter colours are used to represent newer flavour profiles.
Other than the chocolate bars, there are also chocolate assortment boxes, “Classique” for the classic chocolate collection, and “Les Fruits”, with the fruit-flavoured assortment, all with the same colours and patterns to create unity and identity.
